Coming soon to Whitman Plaza

Some changes are coming soon to Whitman Plaza, according to Breslin Realty’s site plan and flyer. A Goodwill store may soon open up next to Burlington Coat Factory. Dunkin Donuts has also proposed an extension further back into the parking lot.

Goodwill is currently located just blocks away at 2601 S Front St. It seems unlikely that the proposed site is a second Goodwill location for the Whitman neighborhood. It is more likely that Goodwill plans to move from its current lot next to Aldi’s into Whitman Plaza.

The 280,000 square ft plaza still has properties for lease. Current tenants include ShopRite, Ross Dress For Less, Burlington Coat Factory, PetValu, Blink Fitness, PennDOT, Party City, Rainbow, Citizens Bank, Payless Shoesource, H&R Block, GNC, GameStop, Dunkin Donuts, Rent-A-Center, One Main Financial, Kelly Staffing, Flaming Grill & Supreme Buffet, MRCP, and Cavity Busters.

Shoprite of Whitman Plaza opens September 2016 – Hiring

Shoprite of Snyder Plaza will finalize its move to Whitman Plaza this Fall. When Shoprite purchased bankrupt A&P’s Pathmark in Whitman last year, they promised an early opening in Spring 2016. It seems that the old Pathmark building required a lot of fixing up because the final move and opening date is now set for September 2016, months behind schedule.

Shoprite is now hiring for their new location at Whitman Plaza on 3rd and Oregon. The new renovations and expanded space includes plans for their nutritionists and a sit-in coffee shop. There has been no word of a new pharmacy opening to replace the closed Pathmark pharmacy that previously serviced the neighborhood.

With all the neighborhood changes and plans for new development in the area, Whitman is up and coming indeed.

ShopRite of Whitman Plaza Coming 2016

Renovations are under way at Whitman Plaza. ShopRite has officially posted their banner on the old Pathmark store window at 330 W. Oregon Ave. No official dates have been announced, but ShopRite boasts an opening date in early 2016. Early could be as early as January, but sources say opening date is more likely to be in late February or early March and definitely in time for Easter.

Where are shoppers getting their groceries for the time being? Many locals report shopping at ShopRite at Snyder Plaza or traveling to ACME on Oregon Ave. For those who like to be right next to their home store, the Oregon Market is literally steps away from Whitman Plaza.

Snyder Plaza ShopRite moves to Oregon Ave as Pathmark Closes

A &P’s Pathmark located in Whitman Plaza on 3rd and Oregon will officially close come November 3rd, 2015. The ShopRite store at Snyder Plaza will be moving to the more spacious Oregon Ave location come Spring 2016, according to sources at ShopRite.

ShopRite hopes to expand its store at the new location by offering a sit-in cafe, dietician, and additional upscale features. Sources hint at a grand plan to develop Whitman Plaza and nearby neighborhoods, bringing in new residents, more jobs, and tight security features; all while maintaining the same low cost to consumers. The expected influx of businesses and jobs is intended to draw in new and diverse residents, further developing the neighborhood.

The building where Pathmark once stood will be completely renovated to give ShopRite a specific modern appeal, the first of it’s kind in Philadelphia. ShopRite was unclear about their planned security features and specific plans to clean up the neighborhood. Their decision to go green will mostly depend on neighborhood associations and nearby residents.

The new ShopRite does not advertise a pharmacy department. Pathmark’s pharmacy department closes October 31, 2015. Prescriptions have been sold to RiteAid Pharmacy. Consumers with prescriptions or refills at Pathmark Pharmacy in Whitman Plaza will have to contact RiteAid to get their prescriptions. Alternatively, customers can have their new pharmacy of choice contact RiteAid and transfer all their prescriptions.
